About Our Community
The San Francisco River runs through our valley from the north; Whitewater and Mineral Creeks cascade from the east; the spectacular Mogollon Mountain Range outlines  the sky. We are surrounded by the Gila National Forest, the western portion of the Gila Wilderness and the Blue Range Wilderness.
This is a birdwatchers paradise; from the bald and golden eagles to resident great blue herons and black hawks, migrating cranes and ducks to six different species of hummingbirds buzzing the bountiful gardens.  Our area has been granted the distinction for some of the Darkest Skies in the Nation for stargazing.

Many Thanks to David Thornburg and Laurie Ford for the use of their Photographs for this website.

Glenwood, New Mexico
A Place You Will Never Forget

The greater Glenwood area is rich in history. From the pre-historic archeological sites (Mimbreno Culture), geological (rockhounding and thermal springs),  remnants of old mining towns (Mogollon and Cooney), outlaws such as: (Butch Cassity, The Wild Bunch and Billy the Kid), famous Apache Chiefs (Victorio, Mangus Colorado and Geronimo);  the first motorized "Air Ship" to fly in New Mexico was off Whitewater Mesa just above Glenwood and the Catwalk National Recreation Trail.
The stunning and diverse landscape of our little piece of heaven covers 4 of the 6 life zones

We welcome your visit and encourage you to stay. This is the perfect place for relaxing, sightseeing, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, birding and gazing at the starry starry night sky.
